Ezekiel Fugate
Ezekiel Fugate was born and raised on the ancestral lands of the Tsalaguwetiyi (Eastern Band Cherokee) and S’atsoyaha (Yuchi) in what is now called Hiltons, Virginia. He grew up a little bit wild there, among the mountains, rivers, and other-than-human beings who awakened in him a deep sense of kinship with the entire living world.
He is the co-founding director of Deep Belonging (deepbelonging.org) and the co-founder and former director of Springhouse Community School. He is currently completing his doctoral work in the Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness program at the California Institute of Integral Studies, where his research focuses on human experience and evolutionary cosmology. Brian Thomas Swimme is his dissertation adviser. He holds degrees in engineering and math from the University of Virginia and Yale University.
He lives with his wife and two daughters on a small permaculture homestead and native plant sanctuary in the Appalachian Mountains of southwestern Virginia.
